Strategic Alliance: Energy Conversion Systems (ECS) and Ningbo
Huarui Electrical Appliance form Ningbo Sunico Commutator Co. Ltd.

Energy Conversion Systems (ECS) announces a strategic alliance
with Ningbo Huarui Electrical Appliance Co., a leading Chinese manufacturer
of commutators and other components for the AC/DC motor and generator
industries. Under the terms of the agreement, ECS and Huarui have formed
a new company, Ningbo Sunico Commutator Co. Ltd. (Sunico). This company
will be jointly managed, with ECS western personnel becoming part of
the local staff.
The formation of Sunico is the latest extension of ECS’s
ongoing strategy to build a company that is truly “Greater Than
the Sum of Its Parts”.
The alliance with Sunico calls for ECS to
transfer technology, know-how and full use of ECS intellectual property.
The technology transferred will permit Sunico to produce the proprietary,
copper efficient, “Midwest” commutator, which is a significant
benefit to customers in times, like today, of high copper prices. Sunico
and ECS will jointly produce commutators and use their combined resources
to better serve their collective global customer base.
ECS will handle
exclusively all sales, marketing, customer service and applications engineering
for Sunico.
ECS will continue to produce commutators for the selective
automotive and other applications in its Dunn, North Carolina plant,
while other production is transitioned to Sunico. ECS will continue to
employ its global research and development efforts in Dunn, supported
by Sunico.
Sunico is just completing an extensive production facility
and related compound in the Beilun area of Ningbo, PRC. The production
capacity of Sunico will be 100 million commutators, annually. The new
facility exceeds 250,000 square feet and can produce commutators, starting
with the formation of its copper strip through final assembly and testing.
Additionally, the compound has dormitories for more than 1,000 workers
and a separate living area for managers.
By combining their resources,
Huarui, ECS and Sunico become one of the world’s largest manufacturers
of commutators and will offer existing and potential global customers
world class products, services, and technologies that are second to none.
