ECS History: begins from solid roots.

In 2005, Energy Conversion Systems merged with Kane Magnetics International to form a new global organization. The resultant company was formed to better maximize the resources and to better serve the markets of both companies. The new ECS is comprised of 12 operating companies in 8 countries with a workforce of over 1,800.

Kane Magnetics International

 

1957
Kane is founded as the magnet division of Stackpole Carbon Company located in Kane, Pennsylvania, USA.

1995     
Kane changes its name to Kane Magnetics International.

2000     
Kane Magnetics acquires C2B Magnets, Auxonne, France

December 31, 2002
MidMark Capital, a private equity investment firm, purchases Kane Magnetics from its previous owners.

April 30, 2004
Kane Magnetics acquires select magnet operations from Magnequench, Inc.

 

Energy Conversion Systems (ECS)

 

1856        
Six Welsh-born Morgan brothers establish the Patent Plumbago Crucible Company in London, UK.

1880’s       
Name changes to the Morgan Crucible Company.

1906        
Electrical Carbon Brush division of Morgan Crucible is formed.

1970’s
Entered commutator business.  Purchases Korean manufacturing operations.

1980’s    
Purchased Brazilian & Italian manufacturing operations.

1973 -         
Midwest Molding and Manufacturing is acquired.

1966
Manufacturing capacity is established in Dunn, North Carolina.

1992      
Entered into joint venture with Shanghai Electric Motor Company.

2000
New management team launches Major Business Re-Engineering Initiative.

2001
Acquires Multicraft International in Mississippi, a systems assembly operation.

June 11, 2004
MidMark Capital and HSBC Capital (USA) Inc. purchases Morganite from Morgan Crucible and changes the name to Energy Conversion Systems.

Kane Magnetics International and Energy Conversion Systems are merged. The new entity operates as Energy Conversion Systems, LLC (ECS).
